Hana 73.50” Upholstered Sofa

We were looking for a sleek, contemporary, and not overly large sofa for our apartment. I’ve never purchased a Mellow brand furnishing product before and was encouraged by the good customer reviews. I ordered our sofa on a Monday morning and Wayfair delivered it the next day by lunch time! (They should maybe consider a name change to “Wayfast.”) We weren’t home at the time of delivery (since we were expecting it a few days later) but the delivery person placed it right by our apartment front door. The unit comes in a single 6′ box. Getting the sofa out of the box is a bit of a tricky affair (just by virtue of how unwieldy it is to get a sofa out of a box). I suggest you lay the box horizontally, open the top and either remove the flaps or tape them to the side of the box then turn the box upside down and slide the box upward off the sofa. Here’s where you appreciate Mellow’s ingenuity: the sofa back is sitting on top of the sofa base (the part of the sofa with the three seat cushions). Concealed within the sofa base behind a tear-open velcro-attached fabric cover is all of the other sofa components: arms, back cushions, legs, and the assembly instructions (the beautiful eucalyptus wood legs are superbly packaged in a small box, individually bubble-wrapped, with plastic protectors on the screw tops – you have to love the attention to detail). There are no tools required here; you simply slide all the pieces together via tapered brackets. Pretty brilliant – Mellow is not kidding when they claim that assembly is “Almost too easy to be true” (and, finally, I don’t have yet another hex key to add to my toolbox). Once I got the sofa out of the box, it took me just 30 minutes to put everything together and I was going at a leisurely pace. Now, if you’re hoping for a plush, smooshy sofa, well, this isn’t one of those. It’s a bit firm actually. I expect that it’ll soften a bit over time but don’t expect to be swallowed by this sofa for the first few months. As for appearance, your assembled sofa will look exactly like the photos you see here. The fabric is very neutral – something like a cross between a pale beige and a pale grey – and looks like it’ll hold up for a long time. Once assembled, the sofa is rock solid. No squeaks, no wobbles, no nothin’. As for size, this is a smaller sofa but the seating area is about 66″ long which isn’t a whole lot smaller than much larger sofas. The seating depth is about 20″ (versus 22″-24″ on larger sofas) so you don’t really need any sofa cushions if you’re of average height (5’10” or less). On top of the remarkably low price for this sofa, Mellow uses materials that are certified free of harmful chemicals. If you were going for a sofa with a sleek Nordic design flair, affordable price, conscientious use of materials, and Wayfair’s blazingly fast, free delivery, you won’t regret purchasing this sofa. At all. (I was impressed enough that I subsequently purchased the Mellow Hybrid foam bed mattress.

This sofa is fantastic! Yes, when you first sit on it , it feels stiff and firm. Keep sitting and you realize, despitethe initial surprise of not getting that “sink into the sofa” feeling, that it is very comfortable to sit on. I laid down on it and was more comfortable than I have ever been laying on a sofa. The base cushions are all one unit so you don’t get that uncomfortable sinking into the cracks feeling. Assembly took 10 minutes, all by myself. It’s neat and tidy and just what I was looking for. My roommate and I are both on the petite side. If you are big and tall you will probably not find it as accommodating. As you can see in the pic, I use it as a room divider so it was important that the back be attractive. This sofa looks very nice from the back.

This couch is so cute! And comfy! Really love the almost denim look it has… very pretty blue color. Goes with everything! Nice, clean, modern lines but without looking stiff and boring.
