Create an environmentally friendly, economical composting system with Greenes Composting Bins. These cedar bins allow you to turn household waste into natural food for your lawn, garden, and flower beds. Simply layer greens such as vegetable and fruit peelings, coffee grounds, tea bags, and grass clippings and browns such as eggshells, cardboard, corncobs, and cotton towels, and allow materials to begin to compost. The bins’ open design makes it easy to turn the pile every two to three weeks with a shovel or pitchfork to aerate the product and speed up the breakdown process. Depending on the climate and the mix of materials, your compost will be ready to use in 3 to 12 months. To keep a continuous supply, create a multi-bin system with our add-on kits sold separately; after one bin is full and the materials have begun to break down, simply move them to the next bin and begin the process again in the first bin. Proudly made in the USA from solid North American cedar. Composed of 4 posts, 24 boards, and 40 spacers, this kit assembles with only a rubber mallet.
Features
Easy to Set Up: Greene’s cedar composters use dovetail interlocking joints, which makes assembly a breeze. Each board slides into the corner posts to form a secure open-bottom composter.
Easily expandable: composters can be connected together to create the design you need. Corner posts are routed on all four sides for easy assembly and expansion.
Sustainably Sourced and Safe: Cedar is harvested from managed forests. Naturally, rot- and insect-resistant, chemical-free cedar is safe and earth-friendly.
Longevity: Cedar is resistant to rot and insects, making it the perfect choice for your garden. Left organic, the wood will weather nicely to a silver-gray color over time. To preserve the wood apply a seal or stain of your choice.
Max Airflow: The open design provides airflow to help rotate waste regularly
Specifications: rustic, untreated cedar boards are approximately 11/16 in. thick and 3.5 in. high. The routed corner posts are 2.5 in. square.

First of all, the 48″ x 48″ x 31″ option is not 172 gals, it’s 309 gals. The item’s description doesn’t change when you select the bigger option. As you can see in the photo, it is large…probably used best with a lot of leaves, grass clippings, and yard waste. It was easy to assemble. It took me all of 15 mins to put all the slats and spacers in.On one rail, I had to use a hammer and blocking board while sliding a slat to get the groove smooth enough to put all the other boards in.None of my spacers broke as reported by others but you do need to be gentle when sliding them in as they are thin at the neck. You can make this composter bin by yourself but you’ll need another person to move it so if you can build it where you want it, that’s best. It’s a good price too.It would likely cost a lot more if you tried to build it yourself by buying individual cedar slats and cedar posts.

Gosh I love this item!! The slats are perfect and easy to put together. And it’s flexible – I leave one side half way down to facilitate turning the pile. Easy and effective. I am very happy with this purchase! Plus the cedar smells great!!

So easy to put together. I love that it allows air in to the pile. I also like that it’s easy to add another attached bin.
Lucille (verified owner) –
It’s working very well and my son enjoyed putting it together. My only complaint is that one of the small wood pieces broke while we were putting it together and there were no spares. I would recommend the manufacturer add a few spares since the pieces are so small and breakable.

Easy to put together, large, and looks good.
Richard (verified owner) –
Exactly what was described. Very easy to assemble (5 minutes) and being cedar, it should last a long time. Very pleased

We wanted something that could be placed in the back yard, do the job, and be attractive. An even better benefit was the ease of construction. We had our three grandchildren help construct it and they loved it.
